How to care for a Monsieur Cuisine bowl

Author: AMT Serwis

The bowl is one of the most important parts of a Monsieur Cuisine. It is what meets high temperatures, blades, moisture and detergents day after day. Proper care not only extends its life but also reduces the risk of expensive repairs to the whole appliance.

As an out-of-warranty Monsieur Cuisine repair service, we very often see faults that could easily have been prevented. Many of them come down to incorrect cleaning or misuse of the bowl. Below are a few simple rules that will keep your Lidlomix running trouble-free for a long time.

The dishwasher: convenience that can cost you

Although the manufacturer permits some parts to be washed in a dishwasher, our experience is that using one regularly significantly shortens the life of the bowl and its components.

Blunting the blades

The strong detergents in dishwasher tablets, combined with high temperatures, gradually break down the structure of the steel the blades are made from. The result is duller blades, poorer chopping and a heavier load on the appliance's motor.

If you do decide to put the bowl in the dishwasher, always take the blades out first and wash them by hand.

Faster wear on the seals

The seals are made of flexible rubber, which does not take kindly to aggressive chemicals. Frequent contact with detergents makes them harden, crack and lose their seal. That can lead to leaks, and even let moisture reach the electronic components.

Protect the electronics from moisture

This is one of the most common causes of the faults that reach our workshop.

On the underside of the bowl there are metal contacts responsible for communicating with the appliance. After prolonged contact with water or moisture they can develop a film and corrode. As a result, the Monsieur Cuisine may struggle to recognise the bowl or start showing errors.

So after every wash:

  • dry the underside of the bowl thoroughly,
  • wipe the metal contacts with a soft cloth,
  • make sure no water is left underneath the blades,
  • and only then fit the bowl back into the appliance.

Never put a wet bowl into the body of the machine.

Daily cleaning that takes less than a minute

Once you have finished cooking, it does not pay to leave food residue to dry on.

The simplest approach is a quick self-clean:

  • pour about half a litre of warm water into the bowl,
  • add a drop of washing-up liquid,
  • run the blades for a dozen or so seconds,
  • pour the water out and wash the bowl by hand.

This removes most of the soiling without any scrubbing.

Use a soft sponge or a microfibre cloth. Avoid wire wool and strongly abrasive cleaners. The scratches they leave not only spoil the look of the stainless steel but also make food residue stick more easily the next time you cook.

How to remove burnt-on residue from the bowl

Burnt milk, sauce or grain does not mean reaching for the wire wool.

A far safer approach is to:

  • pour water into the bowl,
  • add a tablespoon of baking soda or a little vinegar,
  • heat the contents for a few minutes,
  • leave it to soak.

After that, most of the residue comes away without force and without any risk of scratching the surface.

Dull film and discolouration on the Lidlomix bowl

Over time, white streaks, rainbow discolouration or a dull film may appear on the stainless steel. These are usually the result of hard water or strong detergents.

They do not mean the bowl is damaged.

Simply wipe the inside with a soft cloth soaked in lemon juice, or in water with a little vinegar added. Then rinse the bowl thoroughly and dry it.

Do not leave food in the bowl for hours

Once cooking is finished, it is worth transferring the food to another dish.

Prolonged contact between the steel and acidic foods — tomato sauce, pickles or dishes with a lot of lemon in them — can cause discolouration and make later cleaning harder.

Dried-on food residue is also considerably more difficult to remove.

Check the seal and blades regularly

Every few weeks it is worth giving the bowl a close look.

Check whether:

  • the seal is cracked or deformed,
  • the blades turn smoothly,
  • liquid is escaping from around the blades,
  • there are signs of corrosion on the underside of the bowl.

Spotting wear early helps you avoid more serious faults and considerably more expensive repairs.

When should you contact a service centre?

If the appliance:

  • does not detect the bowl,
  • shows errors related to fitting it,
  • leaks from underneath,
  • makes unusual noises while the blades are running,
  • has damaged contacts or a damaged lock,

it is not worth forcing it. Continuing to use it can damage the electronics or the motor.

Professional diagnostics quickly establish the cause of the problem and often head off a much more expensive repair.

In summary

Looking after the Monsieur Cuisine bowl properly does not take much time, and it can significantly extend the life of the whole appliance. Washing by hand, drying thoroughly, avoiding aggressive detergents and checking the seals and blades regularly are simple steps that head off a great many faults.

If your Lidlomix has stopped working properly, or needs repair now that the warranty has expired, it is worth turning to a professional service centre. In many cases a quick diagnosis restores the appliance to full working order and saves you buying a new one.
